    • On a personal level, I have been called nagging and controlling. But I’m not either of those. Rather, I’m persistent and I have an opinion! And it’s true, I have leadership skills but no one told me that growing up. Otherwise, I have a feeling I’d be the President of the MFing United Stares by now.

      • Right on! I was always told to lower my voice, stop being bossing and stop helping everyone I saw, that I “didn’t have to be the voice for every injustice.”

How sad would it be if I had listened?

I so totally see a blog post coming out of this…

      • So glad you are inspired! 🙂 I’m glad you didn’t listen.
It took me my whole 20’s to learn that I needed to define myself for myself. I still struggle with it. So thanks for the reminder!

  1. I don’t know. I’ve seen bossy and I’ve seen leadership skills, and in general I find great leaders are not bossy. In fact I think they’re the opposite of each other.

But I take her point that sometimes girls with great leadership skills are termed “bossy” by mistake, because they’re girls, and some people are not comfortable with girls being leaders.

    • Thank you for your comments! This quote is so inspiring to me. I love it because it encourages people to think about the way they view girls/women in leadership roles. And for me personally, it reminds me to define myself for myself–something I struggle with from time to time.
