7 For Seven

Typewriter 7 TitleThe 7 For Seven originated at Key + Arrow. Here’s what it is, in their words:

Let’s face it // Mondays stink. Or at least we typically expect them to stink. That is why, every Monday, we post seven positives from the previous seven days of the week as a reminder of what we have so that the week starts out on an upswing. There is much truth in the belief that happy people attract good things, so it is important to start the week out right. Sometimes it’s the more grand, but other times, it’s the simple things.

Typewriter 1NE CitySeptember 27th would have been my mom’s 64th Birthday.  My family celebrated in the same place we’ve always celebrated her birthday, Nebraska City.  We visited the apple orchard and washed our apple pie down with apple slushes.  We walked through the rose garden at Arbor Lodge, just like we did with my mom last year.  This year we all sang “Happy Birthday” while we walked along the path.  On the way home my dad said, “Well, I hope Manga is having a great birthday, wherever she is.”

I am so grateful for my family and for all of the lovely days we’ve spent in Nebraska City.

Typewriter 2One of my favorite bloggers said I’m “officially fabulous” in the comments section of my post, Underwear?!  She goes by Delusia and her blog, My Delusions, is so good it gives me goose bumps on a regular basis.  I adore her, so every time she comments on my blog I blush a little.  I feel so lucky to have a multitude of clever, witty people following and commenting on my posts.   Thanks to everyone who’s reading!

Typewriter 3Last Sunday my Parents-in-law babysat all three of my daughters for several hours.  Chris and I spent a nice, lazy day together and saw a movie at the theater.  The kids had a great day with Grandma and Grandpa and two of their cousins.  That’s a win-win situation.

Typewriter 4Thanks to my sweet husband, I’ve had plenty of me-time in the past few weeks.  I’ve spent two consecutive Friday nights out with friends.  And not just any friends.  Ladies and gents, introducing… (say it like Oprah) Aasta and Sampson!!!Aasta and Samps

They’re hilarious and outlandish and they’re Omaha style icons.  Aasta is a mother of two awesome kids plus she runs her own Vintage Shop on Etsy.

Sampson is a hipster’s wet dream.  She says stuff like, “Sometimes, I like to hold my cat up to the sliding glass door and say, ‘Look, Rudy, everything the light touches is our kingdom.'”

We attended karaoke at a bowling alley this past Friday and it was so much fun!  I love these two beautiful women.

And how many of you can say you have a friend who is going to be in “Awkward Family Photos”??  Huh?  Huh?!  ‘Cause I do!  This photo of Sampson and her mom will be featured in the upcoming AFP book!  Now that’s reason to be grateful.

I was caught up on laundry for a moment last week and it felt intoxicating.

They do exist.  Two words:  Denim Dishes.

Denim Dishes

Typewriter 7One of the best things about parenting has to be the random little notes I find lying around.  I’ll never forget the time I stumbled on a whiteboard with the message, “Layla is a sun of a bitch”.  And I have a whole treasure trove of apology notes from Piper.  Saturday night she was sent to her room for ignoring her father and she came out with a real doozy of an apology note.  Later, after she left the room, I flipped through her notebook and found a follow-up note that I was even better.  Preach, Sister Piper.

A Note From PiperTranslation

Note 1:  I am sorry.  I was bad.  I have ups and downs.  That was a down, right?  It just happens sometimes, right?  Sometimes it happens, right?  I am very sorry.  I am very, very sorry.  Actually very, very, very sorry.  I am very, very, very, very sorry.  Oh yeah, and mom owes me 13 bucks please.

Note 2:  I am in 2 Grade.  I have a medium amount of friends.  They are nice.  And then they have their downs.  But everyone has their ups and downs, right?  I know I have my ups and downs.

  1. Yes, we all definitely have our ups and downs so thank goodness for good friends! I love the denim dishes…lol! And that your daughter threw in her apology note that you owe her money, very smart girl 🙂

    • Yeah, I needed cash one day for someone at the door so I broke into her money jar and she won’t let me live it down. That little turd ; ) When they’re all grown up I will miss the notes around the house!
