Liebster Love

liebster-award[1]I have been Liebstered again, you guys.  Kerry at Winding Road passed the award along to me this week and I couldn’t be more flattered!  Please check out Winding Road, it’s great food for thought!

The Liebster Award was the first blog award I ever received, so it holds a very special place in my heart.  I also love the question asking/answering portion of the award process.  My blog series, Conversations With My Followers was inspired by my first Liebster award.  Below I’ve answered Kerry’s 11 questions.  I will post again soon with my own Liebster nominees and questions.  Thank you Kerry for the award!

1. What is your favorite beverage?
Coffee! I like it black and I’ll never go back!
2. How many hours do you sleep at night?
I aim for eight hours of sleep every night but sometimes anxiety keeps me up late. I can survive on as little as three or four hours of sleep. I like Jimmy Kimmel but my favorite late night T.V. is Kathie Lee and Hoda. I never watch it during the day but at two o’clock in the morning, it’s delightful.

3. What do you eat for breakfast?
Oatmeal with fruit mixed in and too much sugar. And coffee!
4. Do you like to cook and why?
Yes and no. It drives me crazy that my kids want to eat three, four, sometimes five times a day. Those greedy little trolls! Sometimes I feel like a Pavlov’s Dog-esque trigger for my children, like every time they see me they just automatically say, “I’m hungry.”  I do like to cook but I’m not very consistent. Once I master a recipe then I own that shit. I definitely prefer baking to cooking, though.

5. How do you spend your “down time?”
I spend a lot of my down time blogging or reading. I love long baths and long walks through my neighborhood. It’s a big stress-relief to have dinner or coffee with a good friend. And Target shopping is therapy for me—I could zone out and spend hours there. I have plans to take-up painting again soon. I will post project updates on my blog because I’m narcissistic like that.
6. Do you play a musical instrument?
No, I don’t play an instrument.
7. Are you superstitious?
I guess I am, and, like my glorious booty, I get it from my mama. I knock on wood when I have a bad thought and I try not to step on cracks. Last month I was driving home from our family camping trip with Simone in the car. We were going about 70 down the highway when a black cat darted across the road. I admit that I feared it was a sign that I was about to die in a gruesome car accident. So far, so good on that one.
8. Are you an introvert or extrovert?
I’m truly an introvert but I push myself to be more social. I doubt most people I interact with daily would describe me as an introvert, but my husband knows I am. To date, my biggest introvert challenge is definitely volunteering as Co-President for my children’s elementary school Parent Teacher Organization this year. Last night was our first P.T.O. meeting and I was pretty anxious beforehand. Things went well, I guess, but afterward I started ruminating on everything that happened and my anxiety shot through the roof. I’ve learned to expect that. I’m proud of myself for working through the anxiety.S'mores
9. Do you like to camp?
I love to camp (for one night at a time). My family tent camps at a lake about 45 minutes outside of Omaha. We always roast marshmallows for S’mores and Chris often gets irritated with me for pissing on the ground too close to our tent because I don’t do outhouses.
10. What is your ideal vacation?
Vacation, oh god that sounds wonderful! My dream vacation would be something like taking a nanny along with us to the Seychelles Islands. Or Amsterdam. I’ve never been to Paris. Italy sounds incredible. Vacation. What a beautiful word.

11. What is the most recent book you have read?
Ten Little Babies by Gyo Fujikawa.

  1. Target therapy – my favorite. During the last ‘family budget review’ I had to promise to steer clear of Target. (tear!) When I saw your books by Gyo Fujikawa I got a big lump in my throat – how many times did I balance my twins on my knees reading Baby Animals? At that time, they could each hop on one crossed leg, I could snuggle them close and still see over their little fuzzy heads. Now, it’s one at a time on my lap and we have to hold the book to the side, much to their dismay. God, time passes much too quickly.

  2. What does this expression me: “I don’t do outhouses”?
That parent teacher stuff sounds interesting but I can see how that must have been a big jump for you…
Congratulations by the way! Oh Zoárd is waking up…

  3. love your answers! because many are so similar to how I would have answered…in particular the sleep one. Anxiety keeps me up too but instead of watching something, I just lay there and marinate in it. Would love to start a conversation more on anxiety and sleep…seems a lot of mamas suffer from it, which I hate but at the same time makes me feel more normal.
